Race Report: Crews and Ladies Races - 27 September '09

Sunday saw 4 boats on the CYC line for the start of the crews race. There was a fickle 4 knots of breeze from a south westerly direction and the Race Officer sent them off up river to Cliff Reach. Double Trouble, Harvest Moon and Scaramouche III all made good starts Encore was over the line but soon returned and set off in pursuit. The boats traded tacks up the north shore with Double Trouble helmed by the “DT Massive” slowly pulling away. The Race Office shortened course at the club line on the leg down river with Double Trouble finishing first on the water and winning handsomely on corrected time from Harvest Moon.

There was a quick turnaround and the Race Officer sent the competitors for the Ladies race off up river to number 13 back down to number 7 and shortened next time through the club line. This time at the start Harvest moon were a little too keen and were over the line. Once again the boats the boats traded tacks up river with Double Trouble helmed by joint owner Becky Haley slowly pulling ahead to finish first on the water and win on corrected time from Encore
Next Week will see the start of the Crouch Yacht Club’s Autumn Series with racing for IRC classes and 707s.
