Summer Series Race 1 - Sunday 6 June 2010

On Sunday, 6th June was the first race in the Crouch Yacht Club’s Summer Series and Race Officer Anita Baynham decided, due to very lights winds and misty conditions, to postpone the start of the race by fifteen minutes in order to ascertain if the boats could make headway against the tide. With the decision made to race the course was set for Fairway 15, Fairway 7, Fairway 13, Fairway 7, Fairway 13 and Fairway 7. The wind was Easterly to begin with so the boats set spinnakers and made slow progress against the tide to No 15. On the way back to No 7 the wind strength went up and down. Encore rounded No 7 quite easily but Harvest Moon and Mantra struggled as the wind first dropped with the tide taking them away from the mark and then shifted to a Southerly direction. The decision was made to shorten the race and Encore crossed the line followed by Harvest Moon and Mantra some 20 minutes later. The results after the handicaps had been applied was as they had crossed the line with Encore owned by Paul Trueman first followed by Harvest Moon (Paul Drew) and Mantra (Phillip and Sally Harbott).
