Race Report: Summer Series Race 3 - 28 June '09
Sunday the 28th of June saw 7 boats on the Crouch Yacht Club’s line for race 3 of the summer series. Unfortunately due to equipment problems Blue Movie was forced to retire before the start. When the course was being set the wind was quite light and fickle, so the decision was to send fleet down river on the last of the ebb to Horse Shoal with a loop around number 1 and then a run up the river to number 11, finally rounding number 5 before finishing back on the club line.
Just before the start the wind steadied down to a 9 knot easterly. Oliver Southgate’s projection 762 Proper job was closest to the start but had not reached full boat speed and was quickly overtaken by Paul Trueman in Encore and that was still the order as the boats passed back through the line on their way to number 11 but they were being closely followed by Harry Croker in Cheetah of Burnham and this was still the order at the finish. Once the handicaps had been applied Encore beat Cheetah by 57 seconds with Proper Job 3rd.
