Race Report: Summer Series Race 4 - 05 July '09
This was race 4 of the CYC’s summer series. The race officer set an upriver start with a beat all the way to Short Pole Reach and then a run to Number 7, the race then being shortened on the club line. Duncan and Beccy Haley’s Double Trouble made the best start but in true Crouch River style the wind was fickle and shifty and she crossed tacks with both Nick Redfern’s Hot Doris and Paul Trueman’s Encore all the way to the turning mark, where a hole in the wind bunched up the fleet. The run back to Number 7 was taxing, with large wind shifts, big holes and 16 knot gusts. Unfortunately Proper Job forgot to pass Black Point on the correct side and were forced to retire. Although the big boats pulled out a lead they were never able to get far enough in front of Harry Croker in Cheetah of Burnham and he won by over 3 minutes on corrected time from Encore with Double Trouble 3rd.
