Race Report: Short Handed Series Race 2 - 02 August '09
There were three yachts at the start – Piers Stanbury’s “Blue Movie”, Phillip and Sally Harbott’s “Mantra” and Harry Croker’s “Cheetah”. In the south westerly wind on a sunny day the course was set to include being sent on a beat up to Cliff and Canewdon. After the boats came back down to No 5 and before they were sent back upriver to Cliff Reach it was decided, due to the strength of the Spring Tide and the fluctuating strength of the wind, to shorten the course. It was a close finish with “Cheetah” beating “Blue Movie” on corrected time by only nine seconds. “Blue Movie” is leading the series at the moment with one race to go which is in two weeks time as next weekend the Crouch Yacht Club is holding one of their Feature Race Weekends with a race to Bradwell for the Lodestar Trophy on Saturday and a return race to Burnham for the Clare Cup on Sunday.
